My bearded iris finally bloomed. I planted it last Fall and it bloomed straightaway. It is supposed to bloom once in August and again in the Fall, but it didn't this year until now. I had stopped watching for it but looked out the window this rainy morning and saw it.

Above, a girl hummer. Below left a girl black swallowtail. To her right a much smaller male. Saw him chasing her around repeatedly. She wasn't trying too hard to get away.

Twice within a few minutes I witnessed this black swallowtail feeding, a hummingbird flew up and the butterfly chased off the hummer. Both times the pursuit lasted more than 20 feet and then the hummer flew way off.
