(3/4) The violence trans folks face is not contained in a vacuum. It relates directly to the violence of gender discrimination, racism(s), colonialism, capitalism, ableism, fatphobia, classism, and whorephobia.

(2/4) Transgender Day of Remembrance was started in 1999 by Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honour the memory of Rita Hester. The vigil commemorated all the trans folks lost to violence since Rita Hester’s death.

(5/6) Canada’s Protection of Communities and Exploited Persons Act (PCEPA) came into effect in December 2014. It was meant to remedy the crisis caused by Bill C-49. But it only exacerbated the shortcomings and violence brought about by its predecessor.

(4/6) Bill C-49 created the conditions that led to what is most infamously known as Vancouver’s killing fields. These “fields” multiplied across the country and created Canada’s current Missing and Murdered Sex Worker crisis.

I 1000% agree. These folks are neither feminists nor abolitionists. They simply use these terms to essentially hide their very overt fascism :/

You aren't missing anything. It doesn't solve anything. That's why Scottish sex workers are trying to fight this. Implementing the Nordic Model/something closely resembling it only endangers sex workers.

They were clearly reaching to make a non-existent issue into a thing. I wish I could say it ended here, but this kind of bullshit continues in Canada and across the globe to this day
