The only ‘domestic terrorist’ I see in this video is the masked one brandishing his firearm at an innocent woman and then calling her a “fucking bitch” as she dies from the multiple bullets he’s just unloaded into her face.

My nightmares for weeks afterwards were colored orange—the glow of flames, apocalyptic skies, pluming smoke. But I had those nightmares in my own bed. So, so many across the Palisades and Eton Fire burn zones were not as fortunate. Their nightmare is ongoing. Please hold them in your hearts today.

The fire came closer to us than this over the next several hours; the evacuation order came through the next day. We found a hotel down in Torrance and spent a sleepless night worrying about whether or not we would have a home to come back to. But we were lucky. Fire lines held. We came home.

I was in tenth grade in 2003, and I participated in anti-war protests and a school chalk art thing and I felt very civically engaged, but I didn’t really think of the war as something immediately relevant to my life until kids who had just graduated from my school a few years before started dying.
