I think they usually recommend to just iron it on wool setting with a lot of steam before sewing with it. I hand wash the clothes made out of these fabrics.

Or maybe you laid out the pattern wrong and attached the sleeve to the neck opening? Looks like the neck front and armhole have a similar curve

How strange. I am not familiar with the pattern. Is it a pdf that you printed yourself? Maybe your printer did not print at 100%. I would also check the pattern if the seam lines have the same length.
