And in my mother's family, Terrence Garraghan volunteered for a voyage to Russia as a cabin boy, and another in his family joined the Royal Artillery to die in Burma; he is buried in Darjeeling, India.

Terrence won a Distinguished Service Medal for courage at sea on that voyage, aged 16

There have been fine and moving #VEDay80 tributes from all Holyrood leaders in #FMQs. My story is about two fathers: my dad's birth father, P/O Ron Carrell, an RAF volunteer, killed aged 20 over Berlin in October 1940, and Sgt Frank Hutchins, my dad's step father, another volunteer (left) ... 🧵
