Direction creating a cross hatch. Then I go back and go over the first area I stitch again. It’s super simple but can save your jeans, or honestly any shredding fabric on clothing.

Yes! This is done on my 1940s white sewing machine that only does a straight stitch. All I do is back the fabric with iron on facing that matches the color enough (sometimes, I didn’t back it on these jeans) and then straight stitch back and forth in one direction, then I do the same in the opposite
