It’s possible to run a good private bus service but the best ones especially for low-income and remote populations is probably going to be a government-run subsidized one (in my home state of Oregon the POINT network is good, and Ontario Northlander looks excellent from the MiT video in question)

they recognize that a lot of their customer base has zero other options, so stripping down service quality to the cheapest possible level won’t drive these people away.

It might also be possible to move the Rose Quarter section to below-grade in the vicinity of the MAX stop instead of elevated, if you no longer have to tie in with the Marquam Bridge.

I don't think it's a big deal to have drivers jog up 205, across Fremont, and back through Rose Quarter to 84. The freeway can be at least partially mitigated (even ODOT thinks so) in that stretch, in a way that the waterfront section just can't.

I'm very glad to see that someone else (many, judging by the comments!) shares this sentiment. Maybe it's unsurprising given how absolutely *rancid* I-5 on the eastbank is.

Of course we could also address the root issue of long trains parked outside of yards, but it's certainly easier to mix some concrete than it is to change minds.

I definitely do think they made the right choice putting it over Tilikum and not Hawthorne. It's still unfortunate and I hope eventually a grade separation structure is built (maybe as part of east bank redevelopment?)
