every friday and saturday evening at work, a different gaggle of teenage boys comes through, almost always commandeers at least one of the electric scooters, eventually ends up in sporting goods bouncing a basketball around and/or has to be told off for trying to ride a skateboard inside.

You can explain the intricacies of egg pricing to them; they'll nod along, clearly understanding everything and agreeing. And then they'll say "OK but I still think Trump is better" because the price of eggs is just the reasonable sounding veneer for the real reason they're voting for him.
