I grew up in a city, but that is not the universal experience of all POC. I wanted to highlight this as another example of the critiquer creating a narrative and fitting Nohua and their comic into this narrative. Nohua didn't grow up in the city. They grew up in a rural space. Multiculturalism

Wrapping around to my last point. When Nohua asked to speak with the critiquer a bit more, this was the reply received.

So, my first point: a narrative touching on "sociopolitical and racial commentary, interpersonal relationships, consumer capitalist culture" and including a "diverse amount of languages and dialects" isn't, for these reasons alone, excessively complicated.

So. When I read these critiques, I'll be honest, my very first thought was that there was some merit to them. I love my friend's work, but I also have had difficulty following the narrative at times.

So. I can't know for sure if Claire's post is in reference to this situation, but even if not, I do think it'll serve us to do some analysis as to why critiques such as the quoted section are not respectful, though they're couched in the language of respectability.

Some time later, my friend received a message reprimanding them for these memes
