Yes, CPTSD spikes our baseline anxiety, pops our hypervigilance, & poisons our beliefs about us & others.

No, that doesn't mean our intuition is invalid. At all.

It does mean we have to contextualize our intuition w/ respect to our wounds-- which is is a skill we can learn.

We're not getting out of this CPTSD thing without making time to care for ourselves-- to soothe, to process, to rest, to regroup, to plan. That's not "aspirational"-- that's reality.

There isn't a realistic version of CPTSD recovery that doesn't involve investing quality time.

Remember today that comparing your path or progress to anyone else's is a trap. It's a habit that derails so many survivors trying to work their CPTSD recovery that I've come to believe there's no literally no upside to it.

It's tempting, but toxic. You don't need that today.

I have a massive DVD collection because most of what I want to watch isn't on streaming. Also, I'm not paying 5 different services. And I can watch what I want when I want without worrying it'll get yanked.
Physical Media Is Cool Again. Streaming Services Have Themselves to Blame

Collectors new and old tell Rolling Stone there's nothing quite like the feel of holding your favorite art in your hands.

Often times when someone is criticizing you by saying “you’re too sensitive” or “you’re too much” their subconscious is saying “this is too honest” and “I’m scared of this truth.”

People are going to ask how you're doing-- but won't have a particular plan for what to say if you tell them, you know, how you're doing. That's not your fault for being a "mess;" that's a quirk of cultural etiquette.

CPTSD survivors often hate casual "how are you doing?"'s.

You are under no obligation to move at their pace, when their pace has no respect for or nothing to do with your rhythms and needs.

Give yourself permission to move at a pace that is sustainable for you and specific to your recovery. It's okay. (Really.)

As we recover from CPTSD, day by day, we often realize: we cannot exist in the world our family constructed & inhabits. We need to leave that world, & the person we were in it, as far behind as we can.

Much of recovery is giving ourselves permission to just stop trying w/ them.

One of the biggest lies CPTSD tells us is that if we're able to laugh or appreciate beauty today, we must not be "that" traumatized.

The truth is, some of the most wounded people can appreciate some of the most profound beauty-- & nobody belly laughs like trauma survivors can.

Understanding my C-PTSD has made me realise why these last 10 years have been so difficult. Trauma often involves a breakdown of reality, a loss of control and a sudden awareness that the world is not as safe or predictable as we thought.

Complex trauma has a way of making us feel like we're already dead. That the version of us who was "supposed" to exist & live died, & we're just a husk. What got left behind.

It's not true.
