Finally hit 180! I was 243 in April of last year. Part of my motivation is my love for fashion and expressing myself through my appearance. I also feel much happier at this weight. The only problem is being a foodie is hard 😭

THE SUBSTANCE- You'd think turning womens toxic beauty standards into body horror would have been done by now, but Fargeats effort is insane as it is disgusting. One to watch.

MONONOKE- This ukiyo-e style supernatural mystery is, without a doubt, the most beautiful animation you will see this year.

MONKEY MAN- An exceptional Dev Patel debut. Cool symbolism, gritty action, a scene where trans women beat up facsists, you can't get much better.

FURIOSA- Even in the shadow of FURY ROAD, her tale of revenge shows why George Miller is a technician & mythmaker. The most insane setpieces of the year.

Dune Pt. 2- An epic trilogy that's only getting better, Villanueve, maybe the best filmmaker of our era, continues to cook.

EXHUMA- another surprise, not THE WAILING level, but a horror film that uses korean superstitions in unexpected ways. The climax delivers on the promise of its setup and more.

Favorite films of 2024:

I SAW THE TV GLOW - This movie anyone can find the horror in, but it pushed me into becoming outwardly presenting NB. For trans/queer ppl, this was a landmark.

ITS WHATS INSIDE- My surprise of the year, a modern take on the whodunit, with creative, clever direction.

This kitten appeared to us as we were leaving the theater, and it was near freezing and it followed us and even hopped into our car, so we brought her home. Not sure if we're gonna keep her yet, but her name is Nova and I can't stop taking pictures 😭

Caught THE FALL restored in 4k at the Plaza ATL tonight and I knew it was going to be a one-of-a-kind visual experience (and it was, Tarsem is a genius in this respect) but it also surprisingly had a PRINCESS BRIDE-esque heart to it. It's not perfect, but it is absolutely in a class of its own.

I love genre film, making the unreal real. I believe genre is a window into which we make meaning and relation to our reality. Thus in this sense, fantasy is reality. Here are some stills from some films I've made!

SCOTT PILGRIM TAKES OFF is an amazing twist on the film/comic, centering the story on Ramona, her relationships with her exes, and facing her own demons whilst fleshing out this beloved world. Add some incredible animation from Science Saru, and it's an easy recommend.
