Maybe a lukewarm take but there should be more emphasis on planning really nice and safe parking garages that serve a certain catchment area and make it more possible to eliminate street parking where needed

I do think that people often have over inflated expectations for how small common outdoor spaces like the one pictured will actually be used.

It seems like your cities are working pretty well compared to ours so maybe you just don’t need them and that’s ok.

I think some cottage courts in the US draw inspiration from alms houses built by churches in Europe so maybe that’s the closest comparison

It’s a way to achieve gentle density that blends in (subjectively) with a single family neighborhood by orienting varying sized homes around a common open space. Has been catching on a bit in the US in recent years
