All I can think of is the wind now. It drags and scratches itself against the roof and walls. The house does not shake this time, but I do. I wait and watch the app on my phone. At any moment, life could twist and return me to a change my mind cannot comprehend. The world quakes and moans with a fever. We have become too complacent with our place in it. People rise, crest, and dive into the madness, trying to find an emergency break that doesn't exist. My home is my ground, my ground is my home. My home is gone. My community is my ground, my ground is my community, my community is gone. The little boy at night repeats all the toys he's lost before he falls asleep at night. We are the same. The coffee shop I worked at every day. The grocery story I hurried myself through on a late evening because I forgot to buy cheese. The small auto-mechanic who knew my dad and never did me wrong. My dental appointment was last week. I am one person, my back breaks with the weight, but they (whoever they are) keeps piling more. Part of our house made it only to be sacrificed to the looters because we weren't important enough to protect. Not rich enough, not high class enough, not enough. When the fire came, they didn't warn us because they didn't care if we burned. 44,000 people were awoken in the night to the realization that we were always worth sacrificing. In less than 12 hours my world went upside down, in less than two weeks my country followed. I was prepared for one but not the other. How far will this take us? I see no bottom. The only comfort that exists is knowing I am not the first to endure such horrors, nor will I be the last. A bluebird perched itself on one of the dead ceanothus branches before we left. I had no food to give it.

up up up and away, why can I not come out to play? maybe I'm this or maybe I'm that, this endless mind chattering makes me want to kick a cat rat? bat? drat too much is unknowable yet I still must decide but the depths of my mistakes have stolen my pride children see adults as aged and wise but the only thing I feel is an increase in surprise what was that certainly I had so young?! can I not drill for more if it or is it all said and done? the path must be forged, the earth cracked and removed created with or without me as I sit in this mood

how do you believe in yourself in the darkness when you can't see your feet? when there's no light to call you home or sound in the deep? how do you know that each step takes you towards the life you always wanted and not the end you fear? how do you trust in the sanity of your decisions and not give in to the tears? i do not know this outcome, i do not know this way but i do know the alternative feeds nothing about me so i'll continue to walk towards the unknown jet today

face one apocalypse and another lines up to enter the ring we're pushing through a thousand "last rounds" nerves shake me doubting my ability to make it end and yet I still go i can't think past the edges of the ring yet I must consider my next meal salad or nachos? another punch connects i take my millisecond to breath and throw one of my own this apocalypse has it coming

it was hurt, it locks, it's twisted forever, now the damn knee can feel the weather one doctor blames the nebulous disease the other throws up its hands, oh to be a patient in these lands let's throw darts at pharmaceuticals and take them for a spin, better to try the rides than to be at this shitass inn
