Thanks for the thoughtful response! I definitely try and express my creativity in whatever ways I can, though it is frustrating that I can't in all the ways I want. I basically spoke from that frustration to a large extent

Yeah art isn't exactly about "magical God-Given Talent" or whatever - it really is hard work and effort -, and I know this is a way to counter the devaluation of art, but there are also real barriers in ability to being able to do it and I feel this vein of discourse tends to brush them off

I know that for a lot, maybe a majority of people, if they work hard enough they could get decent, and maybe I could if I did, but the implied "if you can't draw you didn't work hard enough" genre of posts on this topic really get at me

look I hear you but I don't have the spoons. I have dyspraxia so anything involving fine motor skills is a major struggle for me at a baseline, I'd be learning basically from scratch, I struggle to visualize shapes in my head, and all to most likely never draw anything I'd actually like

this is basically processing damage ticks for hundreds of entities in one go while doing everything else

I have a mod that makes the Factorio biters and nests split into like 5 bugs when you kill one, and I have ICBMs, and to generate significant lag (this is with heavily modded factories on 5 different planets) i have to nuke multiple biter nest networks simultaneously

so many frustrating design decisions justified by "its a story generator!!!"

- it's okay that the game breaks down over 10 pawns in the late game because it's a story generator!! No it has nothing to do with the game's terrible optimization!

as just one example of this; it's maddening

If anything, for me it's the worst of both worlds compared to say, watching it as a movie, because you have to read the dialogue and manually advance the plot, so you can't just passively listen like a movie, but you also can't speed read it either.

I've cleared ARR, haha; it's more a systemic problem with how big story based games interact with my ADHD, like even if I'm enjoying a story, video game stories always are a struggle compared to reading it as a book

they said infinity war was the greatest crossover ever but they haven't heard of the bhatt/hancox-li crossover

A few things do help - streaming helps a ton; it creates a block of focus that I can tap into, at the cost of taking a long time to complete games. Having friends push me help too. But yeah I do wonder how many people struggle with this specifically?

Same thing with many other story based games. For example, I don't think I'll ever climb Trails Mountain, because while the story is amazing, its just too slow for me unless the combat is addictive in some way. Its sad because it means a lot of things I know I like become effectively inaccessible.

What's worse, I read *extremely* fast. I can read at upwards of 2500 WPM with 50%+ comprehension. This is fine in a book. I can just turn the page. Even a visual novel is manageable with skip. FFXIV is basically if I had to turn the page in slow motion, and each page had like, a paragraph at most.
