It's hard to connect with articles like this in 2025 when the government is actively disappearing PhD students for expressing their thoughts and opinions. I would expect better from Nature 🤷🏻‍♀️

Genuinely one of the most terrifying things happening in academia right now.
We have yet to receive adequate information from Homeland Security about the recent news of Minnesota students being detained by ICE.

Snatching up students who come here legally to work hard and get an education does not make you tough on immigration.

We need answers.

Sometimes the greatest act of resistance we can offer is to just stay alive and to stay well 💜
We just want to remind you: You’re not alone. We’re all in this together, and we’ll get through it together. We’ve seen so many people sharing their feelings of anxiety and stress—please take a moment for yourself. Your well-being matters. Sending you hugs—you are amazing, and we love you all! 💚

Just had a comment taken down on Facebook discussing my experience on hormonal birth control.

The reason? "Promoting illegal or restricted drugs."

Remember, abortion bans were never about abortion.

🚨BREAKING. From a program officer at the National Science Foundation, a list of keywords that can cause a grant to be pulled. I will be sharing screenshots of these keywords along with a decision tree. Please share widely. This is a crisis for academic freedom & science.

The CDC'S EJI dataset and webpage have been quietly taken down earlier this week. While I'm not surprised, the crude erasure of public data is incredibly frustrating. Anyways, I have a copy of the 2022 dataset recent to June 2024, published it on ESRI, and it's still accessible through archive.org.
