John Prescott was a politician both behind and ahead of his time. Considered too bluff and old Labour to reach to the very top in the 90s, today his authenticity and class credentials would have been perfect to fight Farage and populism. Labour needs more like him.

We are deeply sorry to hear of John Prescott’s death. An environmental champion, he played a critical role in securing the Kyoto Protocol that underpins the global fight to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to try to avoid catastrophic climate change. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
