I guess it's #nationaldogday, so here are just a few shots of Fenris. He had a rough start as a puppy (abandoned in the snow in South Dakota and some of his litter mates didn't make it) + lots of training/classes during Covid lockdown (and prob some abandonment issues since he was a Covid puppy).

If you don't understand my excitement about this then behold Exhibit A . . . me and my friend Marie at the San Francisco Ghost Tour dressed as "a ghost" (a sheet we picked up at a thrift shop in the Mission District and haphazardly cut holes into). We only fell once.

So wonderful to meet one of the creators of this constellation character map for How High We Go in the Dark! I've known about this for a while, but still absolutely bowled over by their incredibly close/nuanced reading and the creativity of this map. Bookographic and busybusyreading on Insta!

Next week in Seattle at Elliot Bay Books! If you’re in the area you should drop by! Aram’s debut is a tender and complex exploration of the collision of grief, generational trauma, and cultural identity. I cried, I underlined so many damn lines.

Apparently Zoetrope Virtual Studios is shutting down forever by mid month after 25 years. Like probably a lot of you, this site was a significant resource for me early on and where I found much needed literary community, advice, feedback etc. (esp. when I was living in Japan in the mid 00s).

2500 words that came easily today . . . and upon a read through doesn't appear to be entirely dog shit. I'll take it. Pouring any negative energy and crap words into this doll head my mother in law got me (yes, she knows me haha). One day it will come to life via the power of thrown away ideas.

I was sifting through photos to clear up my computer and came across this wedding photo. For perhaps obvious reasons 🍆 this one did not make our official wedding album 🤣. We tried so hard to do the drawing with sparkler thing . . . but did not plan for how the string lights would transform.

It's 2025 and I still come across sub guidelines for lit journals and presses that simply say "No genre fiction" . . . and okay, fine, but maybe back that up a bit with some detail and rationale. The MFA/Lit ecosystem could learn from a submission guide like Clarkesworld.

A quick but energizing #AWP25 . . . Now just come to Minneapolis again, so I can host a (probably fabulist) offsite in my backyard in my comfy house pants and sequester myself upstairs while staring at revelry from up above.

I’m packing super light for my quick #AWP25, but will plant these two signed UK copies of How High around the Los Angeles convention hall with associated photo hints later this week.

Kalahira’s maiden voyage in her new backpack. Unfortunately the journey today is to the vet for her usual vaccinations and not adventuring.

LibGen supporters think they are siding w/ some intellectual property Robin Hood and sticking it to some corporation when they are also hurting authors (and then when they realize that? Also not giving a shit apparently). And it's definitely not just expensive textbooks or scholarly journals btw.

To be fair, they aren't far off . . . but what I sign is closer to "not yet" without the roots.

Come on over and constellate with us. Also, who all is going to #AWP25? This is a very quick one for me. Roll in very late Thursday/early Friday morning and out by very early Sunday morning.

Look, I get that a lot of people don’t understand how publishing works and what is/is not typical . . . But I thought this observation was especially amusing 😂 Three whole rejections.
