I grew a quite ugly potato in a pot in my front yard from one that sprouted in the winter and it made me dance

Everything is rotten and terrible, but I found a volunteer peach tree in the front yard of the house that we have been rewilding for last 20 years.

We started planting out-of-zone fruits in anticipation of climate shift...

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. (”Hard mode” no Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, or Marvel)

Gotta eat dinner even while Rome(esque) is burning. It's like fiddling, except that I'm definitely not in charge.

Then I had hot oil, so I had to keep frying things. It got a bit out of control.

There were no arancini at the Italian street fair, so I had to make some.

Every week I let them send me vegetables, and then I have to figure out what to cook with them. Iron cheffin' my meal planning.

Even when the shenanigans down south are *off the frigging charts*!!!

Meal 1: mushroom stroganoff with mashed potatoes and wilted dandelion greens

In which our author inserts herself into the narrative to assure us that, "She doesn't get eaten by the eels at this time."

I had black beans left from the burgers, so I turned them into cupcakes. I will not be winning any awards for my baking presentation or my food photography, but they are quite delicious and frugal.

Just me stress baking on a random Tuesday night.

Recipes via Dessert for two. www.dessertfortwo.com

It occurs to me that this is precisely the use case proposed for putting computers in our kitchens when we couldn't imagine what they would be used for.

Maybe minus the dread.

Randomly remembering how badly I wanted these as a child. My sister and I cut out bases from flat pieces of wood and stapled on elastic bands to make our own. They did not fit very well, but it kept us occupied for an afternoon.

I am perplexed in retrospect.

Also, still have never owned a pair.

"There were ants in the fruit box, Mom! It was the most exciting thing ever!"

#caturday

(Pretty sure there were/are, in fact, ants in my kitchen. Will not be blaming my veggie delivery guy.)

I had the audacity to start reading this book at the beginning of the year. I have been too distressed to keep going, although one of my young adult children told me that we don't have the luxury of despair.

She's right.

Once more into the breach.

My Kim chi has been aging and getting hotter for serval months.

It is now deadly. And delicious.

Today's domestic arts against the machine... oatmeal brown bread. Gong to serve with strawberry jam I made this morning from discount berries from the local fruit stand (they bundle all the last day berries and sell a 3L basket for $2)

One of my pieces of advice to the young people of my acquaintance... be brave with your cooking so you can always make soup with whatever happens to be in the fridge at the end of the week.

(Joke with a friend is that we are each our own trad wife. Bread also features prominently.)

I had this cartoon framed on my wall as a teenager. Because I was (and remain) a nerd of knowledge and evidence.

Take it in what sense thou wilt.

(Now that I've had several teens in my parenting life, I am very comfortable saying, Man, I was a weird teenager.)

One smol bean to another. Tell your people: I gives you snuggles, you bring the courage.

My cats are making these days bearable. Sort of.

Also stomping long distances while muttering and waving my arms while delivering obviously brilliant insights to the sky at which I am shaking my fist.

And baking.

Just lying in my tub watching the lunar eclipse. I open my eyes when I'm not using the flash, obviously.
