There is no mystery as to what is driving these feelings. Recession worries, tariff uncertainty and fears of rising inflation. In fact American consumers now anticipate prices to rise more than 6.5% over the next 12 months.

April’s index came in at 52.2, 8% lower than the March index. This is the second lowest point recorded since 1952! That’s lower than the 2008 global financial crisis (55) and lower than the peak of the Great Inflation (53) when interest rates reached more than 14%
