I don't know what bogost's stance is, but one that I think is worthwhile is that, in defining what the medium of games entails, it's a separate medium from literature, and games don't need stories, separately from the possibility of a mixed medium form that has games and stories together.

moralistic people are really confused. Some great Oscar Wilde's takes from www.gutenberg.org/files/33689/...
"Bad people are, from the point of view of art, fascinating studies. They represent colour, variety and strangeness. Good people exasperate one's reason; bad people stir one's imagination."

#2 is a definite concern, though I think today there's pretty much a niche for everything, and it's a matter of courting it. There's much less popular things than videogames where I don't envy someone that has to figure out how to make it work... like making a living from writing poetry or something

#1 could become equivalent another job while doing the thing on the side, but the time required by a paying job is very high, so even if you're doing a bunch of marketing and stuff, it'd end up being more time to the unpaid thing almost certainly, and it'd be related, so you'd think about it more.

of course you can always do an unpayable thing in between payable things, but if you wanted to do only the unpayable thing for your whole life, to do the most possible... you couldn't, unless you deviced some way to get paid for it

isn't the idea that, if you're not getting paid to do the thing, you have to get paid doing some other thing, therefore you have less time to do the thing you want and can do less of it? Like yeah, you can get a "real job" and do the art as a hobby (your parent would say)... but you'd do less of it.
