I know a few local pubs who in the past 18 months have cut non-essentials (food has a high GP but its effect on the bottom line can me massively costly if food doesn’t drive footfall) and reduced their range to try to get prices down, and FWIW they seem to be the pubs that are doing better.

I once came up against an enormous wall sorting out an external course reviewer from an Irish university whom I was told had to undergo right to work checks despite the fact that it wasn’t employment and she wouldn’t even be setting foot in the U.K.

Perhaps because I’m a rural kid I think my unpopular political opinion is “food is too cheap”, but I probably should refine it to “all the wrong things are cheap and all the wrong things are expensive”. I would put most things from Poundland in the former category.

Supply chains just aren’t there for deer. Ten years ago the market planned for a shortage and reliance on imports. The need for culls (climate, rewilding, etc), however, has shifted the dial massively but it’s difficult to get the venison to market.

PDFs display the same on every device and if they’re printed. From an academic perspective it’s very difficult - usually impossible - to do any sort of pinpoint citation to a website.
