I'm thrilled to see my article on reversed bullets used by German soldiers in WWI finally published—a project I started 5 years ago at ARES! #HollidayReading

I looked into it a bit more, and this seems to be an example of an RBK-500 with an UMPK in Ukraine.

Since the back fins are missing, it seems like the bomb dispensed its submunitions.

I've not seen any remnants of ShOAB-0.5 dispensers yet.
However, it's often claimed that RBK-500 aerial bombs are used - apparently also with the UMPK gliding & guidance kit.

I doubt that the UMPK kit on the RBK-500 ShOAB-0.5 would look like that (👇) as the bomb opens rearward.

Rarely seen footage of a Russian
ShOAB-0.5 submunition in Ukraine.

For a technical assessment of the ShOAB-0.5, see our ARES Special Report covering all cluster munitions & submunitions in Syria 👇
