If they are willing to lie for an award what else are they willing to lie about? This seems very shady to me.

I can't take their reasoning in good faith. They used AI BS during early development, it doesn't matter how much or little, there where AI assets in the finished game upon release and they lied about their AI use to the IndieAwards when they submitted their game.

That's exactly my sentiment. AI use alone would have killed any interest in this game for me. But this behavior makes me genuinly angry.

Technically AI made textures where in the game for a week before they where patched out. So, yes there was AI slop in the final product.

Add to that that they told the IndieAwards that no gen"AI" was used during development while saying that they used a "little" in interviews. That's pretty shady for me.

Yet, they claimed no AI was used when they submitted their game to the IndieAwards. Honestly, I have a lot of doubts about Sandfall because of that and lost any interest I previously had about Expedition 33.

So SixOneIndie can and should be criticised too, but it doesn't change that rescinding the award was justified under the current rules.

Still, the award has a no gen"AI" during development rule, they submitted the game despite having used gen"AI" during development. Irregardless of justified criticism of the awards and their BTS, rescinding the awards is in line with the rules and Sandfall deliberately lied about it beforehand.
