Hire staff. Haven't seen a shop that doesn't have a people shortage.
Vuln-/update mgmt is the first thing that gets delayed, broadening the attack surface.
New fancy tech without ressources to properly handle/implement it, often is useless.
Get good at the basics first & handle the low hanging fruit
