I like things, and ideas, and most people but not all. I try not to hate but this world makes it really hard to do that. I enjoy teaching ESOL now more than at any time in my teaching career. I probably think too much about language... But I enjoy it!
Who wouldn't miss the promoter and chief architect of the hostile environment to migration, a big contribution to the Windrush scandal.

No one says in maths but in my country 2+3 = 23. It's hard and requires desire and teaching based on what works ( which the academics disagree on!) www.hepi.ac.uk/2025/07/31/n....

Languages have been part of the UK curriculum for many years. Just because pupils have to do it doesn't mean they will learn it. And, as any language teacher will tell you, just because you teach it doesn't mean they will learn it. Language learning isn't like learning any of the other subjects.

I'm so very very glad I never had to house share. The joys of being an old git.

I started reading, then saw it was Tony Sewell. Stopped reading. Life's too short to let that crap anywhere near my brain. I wish him a happy retirement, the sooner the better.

I vote for whispering into a hole in a tree. "In a tree" are very important words in that sentence, and cannot be left out....

Just seen it should read: "some are prohibited from working and contributing" "are desperate to work". Too angry to proofread well!

ESOL students are lucky to get five hours (term time only) a week of they can get on the course. My local college ESOL course n reached capacity as we were in the queue. I've got 10 students who can't find a place on a course.

Also so pissed off with the ignorant and insulting language qualification posturing. I've taught English as a Foreign Language and ESOL for over ten years. Only 1 student went from beginner to advanced in a year. How? She paid for 15/22 hours a week and lived with her bf who spoke little Italian.

Especially because many asylum seekers and migrants MUST take before they can give. They left a war zone with what they can carry wtf do they have to give. Even worse some are prohibited from writing and contributing. The refugees I work with are desperate to wor , but language support is laughable.

3/3 possibility of challenging these or similar ideas because "they" are controlling us. Include Anti COVID vaccine, deliberately spread lies and misinformation, GB News and I believe there is a massive rift between pre and post COVID beliefs. Not just right wing, but anti-fact pro-conspiracy.

2/3 "They've got to stop the boats" from a relative who has dual nationality. Then there's the obvious (to me) lies/conspiracy theories related with a straight angry face. Sadiq Khan is supposedly a known terrorist. Keir Starmer allegedly has a second family. The BBC tells lies all the time. There's

I think this is absolutely right but as others have pointed out not right enough. It's much deeper and touches many more groups. Personally I've been surprised to hear from people I know or meet: "Sharia Law is coming to the UK" "The Labour Party hate the UK because they're all Globalists" 1/2

I thought marriage meant never having to crawl to see your partner nude again... (Autocorrect changed nude to Jude, making it oddly specific and maybe funnier)

Shame that it uses that nonsensical US political slur "tax and spend" . What do governments do? Not tax and not spend? Not tax and spend? Tax and not spend? All governments tax and spend!

Could argue what "back in the service of working people" means but the NI rise has been partially responsible for me losing 40% of my job, and colleagues losing theirs completely. What the hell did they think employers would do? Take a pay cut? Stop director's bonuses? Fiscal incompetence!
