Eg jury selection, the UN security council, the European council of ministers. Most decision making bodies I belong to and participate in daily use majority voting as a last resort

I guess I've struggled with this question a lot. It seems as though democracy is seen by so many as coterminous with majority voting because that is nice and simple. But many mainstream political organisations - deemed by many as democratic - have constitutional safeguards built into them..
