Interesting conversation with my players recently: which "classic" old-school monster did they never fight as PCs?

One of my favorite things to do when designing my own adventures/dungeons/hexcrawls is to drop in weird little creatures which the players have a chance to befriend. Strange abandoned familiar? Weird derpy critter? Histerical trapped fairy? Hell yeah.

You guys have any recommendations for either a swamp based module or an interesting (mostly) social adventure in a city?

So a bit of a tag-along from the previous post, which outsourced (by this I mean non-native to the system you use) or homebrew classes do you use in your games?

I run BX/LotFP atm and I added Kenku, Ranger, Marksman and Witch...so far at least.

Need help, since my mind is blanking. There was an oldschool dnd zine (you know one of those written out with a typewriter), I remember it having a "medicine man" class and a whole bunch of spells, etc. Not all rules were laid out, so you had to do some homebrew. It was released posthumously.

Hell yeah!

In my RPG career, I went from doing all nighters, to preferring 4 hour games and now finally settling down on somewhere between 6-8 hour sessions. That seems like the sweet spot for me.

Reason why I ask about dragons in CW: thinking about adding dragons to my hexcrawl game, but want them to have purpose on the map. Do you ever use dragons and in what capacity? Any special homebrew mythologies about them?

Are there any dragons in Cube World? If I remember well, there was only the Jabberwock in AR&PL, which dragon adjacent. @zakthepainter.bsky.social

Curious which boardgames do you all own/play? My collection got too big and storage space is starting to lack, so I'm considering cutting stuff and dedicating to a selected few.

How do you handle downtime activities? I love giving my players space for whatever non-adventure stuff they like to do in the city, but often it eats a lot of time. Feels like they could easily have numerous sessions doing whatever. It is not bad per se, but adventures should be "out of town".

Somewhat more detailed view of #TheCompendium.
Artistically, it's very pleasing (these here are the inhabitants of the Grey Fortress).
The text is for the most part, but some pages that would've been hard to read were replaced with printed text.
Dozens of pages of useful random tables.

There was one RPG book project that I wanted to have, and couldn't, because the author and prospective publisher were harassed and slandered.
Now I do have it.

Feisty today, so another probably hot take. I think Spelljammer the most uninteresting D&D "setting".
Played it a few times, but it just does nothing for me.

Not sure how controversial this take is, but Peter Jackson's take on Boromir's death is amazing. Movie Boromir is definitely different than the one in the book, but man... I can't escape tearing up every time I watch Fellowship, best character in the movie.

Miniatures or theater of the mind? Honestly, I prefer TOTM with just drawing things on a battlemat with a dry-erase marker. Much more freedom than the hassle of minis.

Yo @kitford.bsky.social , since you mentioned playing Dragonlance, I'm curious how does the setting feel for you? Do you feel what makes it Dragonlance or does it feel like just another fantasy setting?

What do you think is the ideal length of a campaign? How many sessions, roughly?
