The story is actually worse than that. The man was traumatized and lost all his equipment, because his boat was forced into US waters and then capsized with him still in it, on shore.

I think it depends on where you're traveling. Having driven across Canada a few times, I can't think of one rest stop- other than a truck stop or very remote area - that didn't have a kids play area. Even the remote stops had places to run around, move, stretch your legs.
