I wrote about this in March when Williamstown announced their season without any women writers, playwrights, or actors attached. A festival embracing celebrity while ignoring things like hiring staff with expertise to build a sustainable institution playsunpleasant.substack.com/p/wtf-willia...

this is damage control PR, which is how the whole festival has been run this year. PR first, get buzz, build a narrative. The nuts and bolts of making theater happen second or third. This isn't generational change, this is "move fast, break stuff, go over budget." A Fyre festival for the Berkshires.

this is clogging the court system to give people a few hours of community service, but most people get hit with fines that will snowball as they go unaddressed, and you couldn't be bothered to speak to someone who has something bad to say about it?
