PhD student doing research on observational seismology at Seoul National University. Citizen of Republic of Korea. I am interested in physics and statistics of earthquakes, especially the small ones in intraplate environment.
Updated (ver. 3) USGS finite fault model is available.
The fault is divided into 4 segments.

Given that 2025 Myanmar earthquake likely ruptured at supershear speed for considerable distance, I tried Vallée & Dunham (2012)'s method to identify potential Mach cone. I selected the M 5.1 aftershock whose USGS moment tensor is similar to that of the mainshock.

Of course there is exceptions, for example, strike-slip events in Midland Basin (though the largest one (E4) is normal faulting). Figure from Woo & Ellsworth (2023).

The paper from my lab colleague has just been published in SRL special issue on ocean monitoring. He utilized 11 BBOBS deployed in the oldest part of the Pacific plate to detect several intraplate tectonic earthquakes that exhibit some degree of clustering.

Planning a new research topic of investigating potential dynamically triggered earthquakes in Korean Peninsula affected by M>7 earthquakes in east Asia. In fact, there has been reports of such events after the 2011 Tohoku-Oki megathrust event (Houng et al., 2016). I am curious if there would be any.

By the way, I expect to learn a lot about Türkiye earthquakes last year (it seems that majority of presenters are Turkish scientists as well).

Upcoming IGC meeting hosts statistical seismology session (which attracted my interest), but it seems that not enough presenters submitted the abstracts 😥

Started making monthly donation to Seismica. My goal is to write a paper in Seismica with Korean abstract included in the future.
