Passwords also getting the axe?

It’s more dire than is being discussed. The games arcade player side-eye as mainstream & watered down are unsuccessful, and aren’t making money. NG4 player totals are garbage. FF7 Rebirth was a sales disappointment.

The interest in arcade games is a tiny shred of those games.

Absolutely not

Scoring reveals intent (ie resetting score when you continue), but then again so many people don’t care about score.

And then you have the games that dont even reset score when you continue! Which is insane.

Wait you don‘t like Elevator Action Returns?

You and Spiders got me playing OG Shinobi and Rolling Thunder, and I love them both!

We need Boghog’s take on the controversy

The affordability problems all stem from supply-side issues. So it’s maybe unsurprising that other countries have had success with price controls as a counter-measure. But that has also lead to doctors favoring America as a place to work from other places in the world.

Will be interesting.

The discourse on Reddit is dire. “The flying creatures aren’t fair,” “challenge rooms are tedious,” and “bosses shouldn’t have adds.”

Nice to see someone actually like what makes Silksong combat interesting

Dealing with 3d space in a video game is very difficult. Games have lock-on to deal with the difficulty of using the right stick. They use suck-to-target to deal with the challenges on the left stick.

Suck-to-target feels way worse though because it’s so unnatural. Many gamers don’t notice though

Kinda sick that he worked on Golden Axe 2 and 3. So many of the guys from that era are no longer in the industry.

Opt out instead of opt in

What’s interesting is people I know who ostensibly *like* beat’em ups tend to view them as dumb, turn-off-your-brain action games.

These are the people who Shredder’s Revenge and its offspring are really marketed toward.

Even the people who like the games often see them as bottom-of-the-barell

You’re reminding me of why I hate “just add an easy mode” or worse “just let me skip bosses.”

No one told Zach Cregger to make Weapons less scary or violent so they could enjoy it. People need to adopt the attitude they have with movies with games.

I meant to say the sort of people who hate timers that I interact with. Obviously that‘s a small subset
October 6, 2025 at 2:38 AM
Maybe but the sort of people who hate timers (they do trend more casual) wouldn’t play horror in the first place. Because these people genuinely panic over video games and can not handle getting pressured.

Not clear if this is from a lack of experience or just mental state, but I see it a lot.

Just let them have the confederacy so we can all marvel at what a paradise it would be.

Feels like bait

He is right about the sliders. Lame, shows lack of confidence on the part of the dev, makes the game impossible crtique, and moves it away from art and toward a product.
September 10, 2025 at 2:01 AM
In the context of the present day difficulty discourse, a 1cc in something like Dodonpachi exists outside of the realm of what’s possible—despite being an entirely achievable goal for an ordinary gamer!

So it’s no wonder a game that kills you a few times causes conniptions.

Everyone applauding this is way, way, way off. This is *exactly* the problem with progresssives.

It can be galling, particularly when you expect something to happen and then It doesn’t. I agree with Gabe Newell’s quote on some level about fun being when you act on the world and it reacts in turn.

Not that I think Mafia needs swimming.

Unpopular opinion: not everything needs to be for everyone.

It’s nice to have exclusive spaces.

Needs to be provable. Even if you had a willing Justice department (a hypothetical future democratic administration), they would not be able to prove a quid pro quo.
