Using ideas and materials unexpectedly – this is where my real value lies.

This wonderful hand-carved wooden vase, hewn from a block of oak by artist and maker Mathieu Goosse, beautiful and intriguing, but hard to pick up, shows this so well.

If you're going to design a new surveillance system, the least you can do it make it distinct, beautiful and, well, orange!

This is part of the Sculptural Surveillance series from Swift Creatives Innovation Lab – what a beautiful piece of design!

It's important to take a break...

This 'Hopperesque' work, part of the "Sleeper's Window" series by artist and photographer Hana Katoba, shows this so beautifully, or as she says...

"In a world that rushes, she sleeps — not out of laziness, but resistance."

Changing is hard...

Unless you're a chameleon, then it's easy! This is the real (if slightly sped up) footage of an actual chameleon changing its colour live as it crawls over a series of colourful watches made by Jacob & Co...

Look at the little fella – isn't nature wonderful...

I've never been that comfortable around guns.

This work by conceptual artist Maarten Brinkman "My best gun-branches" is just lovely. A super-curated collection of real sticks, shaped like small arms, best held by small hands.

On a scale of deranged felt monsters, how are you feeling today?

These are the wonderful handstitched "Les Monstres Sauvages" of French artist Polly Vogel: www.instagram.com/p/DPiRO-5DON6/

Playful, weird, scary, and just a little worried – I'm about a 5, but I have been pushing an 8!

Nothing is ever truly broken...

This is the beautiful and delicate work of American artist Rob Strati. He takes broken china plates, and brings them very much back to life by creating worlds for the shattered pieces, giving the characters and animals new freedom.

The revolution starts today...

This is the bonkers 'Gboard Dial Version' from Google Japan. Part design exercise, part April Fool and totally mad. Imagine 'typing' those terse 256 characters with this, with much more care and enforced presence.

I can't play football and I can't draw very well, so the wonderfully silly Badly Drawn Ball seems very much at the overlap of my 'things I love but can't do' Venn diagram!

A piece of whimsy, inspired by 5000 people's ideas of how to draw a football, has now been made real by 12 Pentagons:

And spring will come, and the night will be gone – the stunning embroidery of Ukrainian artist Diana Yevtukh. She painstakingly stitches these by hand and then juxtaposes them, physically and digitally, with natural and man-made surroundings.

Very metaphorical, very beautiful.

How much do you hate pointless meetings....?

Useful meetings are of course invaluable – getting the key decision makers, the doers and the thinkers in the same space can solve a lot of problems and come up with some wonderful, fresh solutions, very quickly.
