Well, if you are trying to be what we would call "on the rail" (I believe as your "barricade"), you might have to wear adult diapers if you don't want to lose your space. The other option is to make very good friends with the people around you so they remember you and save you space.

Make sure you stake out the nearest restroom to your seat before getting to your seat. Before you go to your seat, make sure you pee. Don't drink too too much if you can help it (for many reasons) and make sure that at least one person in your group has your location turned on.

If you have an assigned seat, it's usually a non-issue. If it is GA and you are with other people, there will be a spot for you when you get back. GA can get kind of crowded sometimes.

Please have so so so much fun. If you feel like you have anxiety or nerves before the show (I know, you aren't performing, but pre-show anxiety is real) just remember to breathe. In through nose for 5 seconds, hold for 5 secs, out through mouth for five secs. Do this five times.

I see a lot of shows at both very large (Madison Square Garden) and very small (Brooklyn Bowl) rooms. I've got it down to a science now.

Bring a plastic trash bag with you folded at the bottom of your bag. When you get into the venue/your spot, pull the bag out and out everyone's stuff in it. Now it won't get dirty on the floor or have drinks spilled on everything.
