I 100% agree, they've put so little thought into the reality of being a young person. If you close off a "hang out" place from the kids they'll just find somewhere else to hang out. If this is about safety, it literally does nothing toward making kids safer.

Follow up from my previous comments, this is a shallow, grandstanding policy that is all show and little thought. As a parent, I don't feel this adequately protects the kids that are in danger. Kids will continue to have access to the internet and SM as it is all around them.

I don't disagree with many of your points. This policy doesn't address the majority of these issues and that's my point. There are a multitude of ways for young people to communicate and message online. I can easily see my kids SM. It's much harder for me to monitor messaging for example.

Fair enough, without a doubt the older generations may still be (I'm a millennial). I just think this policy is more of a lazy effort to make it look like they're "doing something" about online consumption. The biggest issue will be when everyone needs to start proving their age and ID for access.

As a parent of two kids, they both only received phones in highschool and as a parent, I actually parent them and monitor their usage. They don't have phones outside of set times. They will all still have full access to the internet outside of SM- what does this policy actually deliver effectively?

I can see why they'd like to get a large segment of the population back to consuming mainstream, but seems an unlikely motivation in this case with this age cohort - kids will still be surrounded by SM regardless. Most parents I know are not watching any mainstream media these days (the oldies do)

A poorly thought through policy.

I don't support this bill. I appreciate what they say they're trying to do, but it's just a lazy policy. There's so many things wrong with SM and this literally solves nothing and prepares our young people in no way whatsoever. Genie is completely out of the bottle so actually deal with the issues.

I'm looking forward to the audiobook David (which I can only imagine is SO much work to produce!).

As teenagers, yes. Even still, I ask them to keep their phones on them so I can check in with them.

I'm far from radical but can't believe how many people think it should be the likes of Buttigieg or Newsom. I feel like those are the kind of picks that demonstrate we really learned nothing from this last election.
