You should check out Kiyoshi Kurosawa's Chime when you have a chance. It's a short film (~45 min) and it's by far my favorite thing he's done recently.

Never heard of Tougen Anki before but the online synopsis I found describes the hero as a "temperamental gun enthusiast" and that's probably worth a closer look

There isn't any change in his methods or actions, no attempt to fix anything he damaged. It's an empty gesture towards redemption. I think he just wanted to escape accountability. Only Neo Zeon is unwilling to play along with his new identity, and their demand for reparation provokes him to anger.

It's telling that Tomino often humanizes the Zeon forces but just relentlessly shits on the Titans the whole way through Zeta. He knew what kind of men join extra-legal enforcer groups.
