I know Bendis Superman wasn't pitch perfect by any means but he was the first guy in eons who felt like he was both treating Clark like an actual character AND had the latitude to give Superman forward momentum that felt, just for a second, like it actually meant something.
August 11, 2023 at 9:19 PM
It's why, likewise, I think the identity reveal really works because it's Superman wanting to move forward. It's not about "oh am I Superman? am I Clark?" it's knowing that he's both and he doesn't feel like has to lie about it anymore. The doors these opened were closed way too fast, it's a shame
August 11, 2023 at 9:06 PM
What I like about Bendis Superman is that it goes "oh alright, Clark is a dad now." and it takes it seriously in super-cosmic fashion and gives Clark new things to feel guilty over as a dad: He didn't get to see his son grow up! it's fucked! and that's good!
August 11, 2023 at 8:59 PM
The relatable aspect of Superman for me is that he's a deeply frustrated loner. Either because of all the evil out there or just his dishonesty/guilt in the secret identity and the Clark/Lois/Superman triangle. But the aspirational part is that he always gets back up and FLIES to go do what's right
August 11, 2023 at 8:54 PM
no i've got these
August 10, 2023 at 6:17 PM
back on my bullshit: this is a good one to watch while doing something else, since the plot is so thin and obvious you only need to look back at the TV every 10-ish minutes. but even the weakest Hinchcliffe-era story is cozy to me, lord forgive me for how i'll be acting come november with the 60th
