FESTEN @rbo_org So much already said…but honestly I think this may be Mark-Anthony Turnage’s best piece. Brilliant Lee Hall libretto propels a score where tenderness is in head-on collision with brutality. And underneath it all a wicked irony prevails. Wow.

Stonking account of Strauss’ Alpine Symphony @LPOrchestra - one of the very best things I’ve heard from Edward Gardner. Fabulous vistas from start to finish, a storm they’ll easily have heard across the river, and a first trumpet that’s still ringing in my ears…

Lots of beautiful things in Tom Kitt and Brian Yorkey’s terrific score but I’d cross time zones to see and hear Kerry Ellis blow the roof off with the banging eleven o’clock number ‘Always Starting Over’ 🤩

Tonight @LondonColiseum was extraordinary. There is only one PATTI LUPONE. The voice is unique, unmistakable, the fire of it undimmed. But it’s the lady’s feisty temperament which blazes through everything. Our association/friendship goes back decades and is treasured…

Walt Whitman and Vaughan Williams - visionaries both. ‘Behold, the Sea!’ and there it is in great washes of choral and orchestral sound. Fabulous work from @LSChorus and @londonsymphony under an impassioned Antonio Pappano. Soprano @MasabaneCecilia was, in every sense, majestic.
