I live in Wisconsin. He/him/his
I have never gotten the impression he knows more than anyone, except perhaps the Speaker of the House.

I think he misses that the larger thing enabling women to wait to marry is they can relatively reliably earn a living wage themselves. Lack of involuntary dependency is good for relationships and society.

Yes, that's the point of my comment. It's a demonstration of how they're getting older.

In large part because three of the presidents of my lifetime were born in 1946. And getting to earlier birthdays in that year for good measure (Clinton was born in August, W Bush in July, Trump in June).

Looking for some fresh blood born in May 1946 to take the job next.

Oh no! Oaken breaks up with his partner?

Ah, so flipping away from the executive order. They think the same about brown people with deep American roots. Hence Kavanaugh stops.

If you want to debase yourself to their level go ahead, I guess.

You're embracing their false language to lie about a woman.

Would they deny people like her citizenship? Yes. Do they think she's an immigrant? Unlikely - they're not principled enough to be consistent.
November 24, 2025 at 3:38 AM
You think Vance doesn't know his wife's citizenship story?

You don't have to keep digging on this.

I'm not sure who "they" is in that sentence, but it's true many people assume that because of racism. I don't recommend endorsing racist assumptions.
November 24, 2025 at 3:21 AM
Someone who was born here is not an immigrant. Even if Trump is trying to pretend our Constitution doesn't guarantee them citizenship (outside of narrow exceptions like children of ambassadors).
November 24, 2025 at 2:34 AM
I obviously haven't seen the thread, but stripping voting rights doesn't justify slavery, it is often a step on the journey.

Just look at who's typically stripped of voting rights in America and whom it's Constitutional to enslave as an easy example.

Usha Vance was born in California.

We're gonna have to retire that DeBlasio Onion meme for a few years, at least.

Did Mamdani appear to be begging to you? If not, why did you put that in your hypothetical?

I want Congress to impeach Trump. But in the meantime reminding him that those whose citizenship his regime has threatened are worthwhile is good.
November 23, 2025 at 5:48 AM
Mamdani rightfully needs things from the federal government for the city he's about to run. Trump has no analogous reason for the meeting with MBS.
November 23, 2025 at 2:45 AM
If this is your top priority then be a single issue voter for increasing the minimum wage. If you agree with me about the likely (but definitely unintended) consequence then don't implement a policy that would make things worse.

If you don't agree, carry on!

On the one hand, it's appealing to think of the people we give so much power relating to the least powerful among us.

On the other hand, that would likely make that even more exclusively the realm of the wealthy. Just like careers with unpaid internships needed to break in.

Eh, his kids don't need to change their names. There are probably thousands of Mike Johnsons in this country they can hide behind.

Who here thinks it's OK to assassinate people who disagree with them?

Trump certainly does (he pardoned people who called for the assassination of his VP while assaulting police and just today called for the hanging of Democrats). I don't.

Trump's movement lines up with the characteristics of fascism. The difference in what rules apply to the in-group (pardoned) vs the out-group (rounded up and put in camps, calls for execution) and how it relates to the scapegoating of immigrants is extremely clear.

There are many great things to criticize Harvard for, but their financial aid is commendable. If your family makes under $200k they don't charge tuition. If your family makes under $100k they cover room and board, too.

Trump did crimes and got indicted (and convicted) for it. Some of his adherents did crimes and went to prison for it.

Trump pardoned them for the crimes they did on his behalf. He also pardoned other crimes because they're on his team (Santos). The labels are fair.
November 20, 2025 at 12:53 PM
To be clear, the "it" you're referring to is the effort to illegally use the military as a police force and for killings at sea, right? Anonymous people alleging to be law enforcement (empowering imposters to make the same claim) without a warrant or legitimate suspicion?
November 19, 2025 at 3:29 PM
There absolutely is a criminal cabal that has infiltrated our nation. You just support them.

They're not even being subtle any longer. Trump pardons people who assaulted law enforcement while pretending to back the blue. He pardons Santos explicitly because he was a Republican.

The idea that Franken is in any way an analogous situation to this is absurd.
