@bencollins.bsky.social . This was just pointed out to me by @sarahburnes.bsky.social . Hilarious! Thank you for the laugh. And yup, That’s my professional opinion! #archaeology

Here's the poster for @isawnyu.bsky.social PhD program. We're eager to support students working across multiple scales of inquiry in the ancient Afroeurasia. I can send a PDF if you DM. See here for our open house: isaw.nyu.edu/events/open-... . Please forward as you think useful. #GlobalAntiquity

A thread on the current state of coverage of the Arabian Peninsula in "Global Approaches to Early Representations of the Human Figure". Though I missed this one, which was staged in GitHub: gaerhf.org#female-khor-... . #GlobalAntiquity 🧵

Getting done generating maps for a bit. Choose the center of your world: Alexandria (Egypt), Begram, Berenice (Egypt), Palmyra. And see how close it is to elsewhere. Something like that. <10-ish seconds to generate all four maps and easy to add other sites to the python. (Which I'm happy to share.)

Working on the little script to generate these. Definitely "vibe coding" here. Map title now indicates center. Here's Palmyra. #GlobalAntiquity

Roughing out visuals for a big picture talk on Roman Art. Two maps: Berenice on Red Sea and Begram in Afghanistan. Both sites are "nodes" in long distance exchange. 1000 km radii on an equidistant projection for each. Do territorial states matter? Sure. But also not? (Like I said, "roughing out.")

My response to a text from the Cuomo campaign. Prob won’t be read so I post it here. #NYCVotes

Indulging in some geekery by bringing a #Meshtastic node along with on commute to ISAW. On the LIRR. No acks yet…

Zoom in and those are turkeys and deer chilling in same backyard. Seen during my bike ride on North Fork of Long Island, LI.

I’m all for a multi-polar world. But it’s nice to be invited so this is pretty embarrassing for Trump, especially since he stans them all. And anyway, where is he these days??

And the gallery on the history of the museum is good - by which I mean fairly transparent - on collecting issues.

I happen to be on Dartmouth Campus. (Personal trip to area.) A few pics from ancient Mediterranean gallery of Hood Museum. Nicely installed.

Also picked up this little cute af 2tb external drive from Newegg. To which I’m currently rsyncing my Documents. These are all very necessary gadgets. (Really, this is for backup resiliency. See earlier in my feed…)

Bought a sub-$50 14” portable monitor on sale. Ergonomics work. But screen quality not great so I may spend a bit more now that concept seems to be proven. Fits in my backpack so really could play a role for travel.

I've started a bsky account for "Global Approaches to Early Representations of the Human Figure". @gaerhf-bot.bsky.social . My thread skills need work but I'll look to add groups of figures to that feed on a semi-regular basis. As well as ask for help. I have one query in mind. #ArtHistory #DH

The sun had just dipped below horizon to right when I took these pics facing more or less south (SSW). The world still turns as it churns.

I hadn't happened to know that there are neolithic figurines from Latvia. See journals.uni-lj.si/DocumentaPra... . Now on the hunt for online images. #GAERHF #ArtHistory #Neolithic

2nd Millennium BCE figurines are well-known at Poverty Point, Louisiana. See www.crt.state.la.us/dataprojects... . Scroll down in heartoflouisiana.com/the-ancient-... . 3D: sketchfab.com/frankmcmains... . But underrepresented on wiki commons: commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Categor... ? An opportunity?

I really hadn't known that the Illinois Department of Transportation had documented human figurines found during highway work (I think). www.nprillinois.org/arts-life/20... . Specific findspot not given in that article so I've written to the Illinois Transportation Archaeological Research Program.

I want an "Inner City Rat" t-shirt.

Update on the GAERHF "play" feature. Zoom the map and only those figures will be shown in chronological order. Video is what I've entered for India. Building toward customizable timelines of human figures in regions? Also, left & right arrows now move through figures. gaerhf.org . #ArtHistory

One goal of "Global Approaches to Early Representations of the Human Figure" is to work on presentation of chronology & space at the large scale. There's now a 'play' button for all views. Very imperfect 'user experience'. That's a challenge. gaerhf.org (Also, my screen capture skills aren't great.)
