This cannot be solved by theory alone. We need to account for the practical relations between media infrastructures and publics in a given constellation. These shift and change, while institutional mediation and technical standards attempt to stabilize production, distribution, and reception.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, Eryk. I have always had a strange feeling about Bratton, and "The Stack" in particular. Comparing resistance to nuclear power and AI is not what I would call good theorizing either. Should we get him a free copy of Karen Hao's "Empire of AI"?

I really wish that our style of technological critique would make it into governance discourse! Bratton's piece seems like a weird posting after a public debate that was not in his favor. In German, we call this "Nachtreten". Literally, a foul after the foul.
