A wheel isn't, no. A single part of the whole isn't the whole. But at what point do enough elements become adjacent that the whole is represented sufficiently?

No, it isn't. I think the metaphor is change over time with continuity of form or purpose. Hence, is what we perceive as "the thing" now and forever "the thing", and has it always been "the thing"?

I'm not defending them. I just think context is important to understanding. Those boomers who refuse acknowledge their privilege and deal with the consequences are the issue. Unfortunately, there's a lot of those.
