I know Jasbir isn't posting these ironically, but if he was it would be some quality satire. Real leaders avoid the media, bulldoze encampments, and don't care if constituents disapprove. Democracy 101 guys. Nothing to see here.

While Harrison did not provide a comment directly to the Examiner, she did post a statement to social media just after 8:30 Wednesday evening stating she "unequivocally" supports a ceasefire in Gaza. The story has been updated to include that statement.

Rally for Dignity outside Peterborough City Hall this evening before a meeting where councillors will decide the state of funding for homelessness services provided by One City. I'm off to write, but @joellekovach.bsky.social will be bringing you live updates throughout the night.

The CAO of the City of Peterborough shouting out the "dedicated group of enablers" at city hall after getting an award from the mayor is a little on the nose.

Unrelated in some ways to the proceedings, but there are two full empty rows of seating in chambers, both of which at one point served as media seating. We got moved back the week after I overheard the mayor threaten Coun. Bierk. Also, municipal enforcement staff are in chambers this evening.

Here is a copy of the motion Baldwin has introduced and which councillors will now discuss.

A few key points in the integrity commissioner report where Leal tries to suggest my initial reporting on his threat was "out of context" while admitting he needed to call a fellow councillor to confirm what he said before suddenly recalling it with perfect clarity. The IC doesn't buy it.

Thank you to the anonymous employee here and friend of the free press who supplied this steaming Americano to me on the down low. You're a life saver!

Things are really filing up here at the Canoe Museum in support for Emma Harrison who continues to lead by more than 1,400 votes with 40 polls now reporting. The margin of her lead is now down to 53.4 per cent of the overall votes. Still no coffee though...

You either didn't read the article or don't think that a local non-profit organization promoting arts and culture in the community is "of public importance to society." The Examiner does, though. It's a positive news story and the volunteers and artists deserve recognition.

Now the real work begins...

Smith has emerged to address the crowd and explains that he had been waiting for at least one other candidate to call to concede the race but has yet to receive one from anyone.
February 28, 2025 at 3:24 AM
Both CBC and the Toronto Star have called Peterborough-Kawartha cor Smith. CTV (the channel on in the room) has yet to call the race.

Food supplies are dwindling as we approach one hour after the polls close. Smith holds a solid lead over Liberal candidate Adam Hopkins, but we are awaiting a final decision.

People I spoke to this evening were confident Smith would be speaking very shortly after 9:00.

No reaction to the announcement that NDP will form the official opposition, again.

Smith continues to lead in Peterborough-Kawratha.
