imagine being the second people to ever time travel. you make it to timeline 3 safe, so you know it works, but there is an ominous lack of previous time travelers (who wound up on timeline 2), so you don't know what happened to them.

my main point is that there is definitely a non-zero group of parents who can do a better job than the public education system, if supported properly, but they're not going to be the ones complaining about regulation and oversight

i am absolutely supportive of check-ins/standardized tests/curriculum supervision, however. in good situations, it functions as valuable support for parents, and it can bring light to and pull kids out of bad situations

i've met a decent number of people with similar experiences from across the us, and it tends to work out really well. one-on-one learning is incredibly effective and can be adapted to various learning disabilities. my education was way better than what I would have gotten from public school.

i was homeschooled by my two professor parents, as were a large group of my peers in the college town i grew up in. hearing horror stories about bad homeschooling has made me realize how well off i was, but i don't think it's fair to label my situation as and edge case or the exception to the rule

homeschoolers fs have a harder time developing social skills, but i don't think it's as extreme as perceptions would lead you to believe

to be fair, you're more likely to realize that someone is/was homeschooled if they have crazy world views or are super awkward. the more normal homeschoolers are more likely to blend in, unless you explicitly ask whether they went to school
