Since 2017, our partners with Friends of Arboretum Creek have been working to improve the water quality, flow, and aquatic habitat of the creek at Washington Park Arboretum.

This year, we saw a spike in advocacy efforts through actions like social media campaigns and organized marches. With three elections this year and the constant threats to public lands and waters across the country, we used our platform to mobilize our network and amplify important causes. 📢‼️

Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association (DVSA) and their biodigester project were spotlighted by Grist earlier this month! DVSA’s efforts to reduce food waste in the South Park area first started in 2021, and we were excited to witness the completion of the biodigester project last year.

Construction is officially underway at Roxhill Park! Our partners with Duwamish Alive Coalition have been working with American Rivers to restore the park’s peat wetland, also known as the Bog. For a decade, community members have been leading this project to restore the Bog and its ecosystem.

Next Tuesday, Dec. 9 from 5-7pm, join us at RailSpur to learn about the upcoming improvements to Occidental Avenue South!

The Occidental Promenade project will revamp the corridor between South King Street and South Royal Brougham Way to create a multipurpose public space in the neighborhood.

With over 300 parks, Seattle is recognized for having one of the best park systems in the country. While Seattle Parks and Recreation (SPR) is responsible for maintaining these parks, many communities consist of people who bond and connect over tending to their neighborhood parks.

Going outside, whether it’s for work or play, has a net positive impact, and many of our partners’ projects aim to share their love of nature and its benefits by removing barriers to access that shouldn’t exist.

A disproportionate number of fatal and serious collisions take place on the streets of South Seattle. Underinvestment in the neighborhood’s infrastructure has also led to safety concerns, discouraging residents from spending time outside, visiting parks and public spaces in their communities.
