Voldemort 3, heroes 0. Three games taking seven hours to set-up, play, reset, play, reset and get ever so close but Voldemort goes undefeated. On the plus side my impression of Voldemort is really good now.

Carter Hart for two years at 2 million seems like a bargain. And if he doesn’t work out, I’m sure he can still be traded with that fairly small cap hit. Big question is, did sitting for a season impact his game?

How did miss the deaths of three of the greatest goaltenders over the past month? Losing Bernie Parent, Ed Giacomin and Ken Dryden in September is crushing.

Am I the only one who starts singing Masquerade from Phantom when you see/walk by the sign at a convention saying the masquerade ball will bet at this location?

Got schooled again in Galactic Cruise. And yet I’m scheduled to teach this game at Dragonflight next week.

The start to a very busy August. Day one volunteering at Worldcon by unloading the Dragonflight library and building the shelves. Tomorrow, putting the games on them. And the rest of the week, manning the library. So drop by, say Hi and play a game!

A worthy cause in the board game community. If you love heavier games, Edward provides that content. There’s a good chance he’s covered your heavy weight game. I for one am excited to play High Frontier for All in the upcoming week.
I’m honestly humbled and blown away by the 495 folks who’ve shown up with such generosity in support of the GoFundMe. Your support means the world.

Let’s keep it going, y'all!

Because game companies don’t want to make original games anymore and just want to release sequels or remasters, can we please get an updated Star Trek Birth of the Federation?

I’m happy that I’m teaching Galactic Cruise during this year’s Dragonflight convention. Doing it three times. If you’re in the Seattle area the weekend of August 22nd-24th, come down and play games. Want to run your own, they’re still taking applications.

Thinking about NHL contracts since free agency is only a few weeks away. How valuable is the no move clause for a player? Do they reduce their AAV by .5 million? Or does the team value it as closer to 1 million? Security for the player and hand tying for the team.

Congratulations to the Florida Panthers, winners of the beloved Stanley Cup. Even though it went six games, they were dominant in pretty much every game. You might say they only lost two periods of hockey in the finals that allowed Edmonton to make their two comebacks.

Mr. President demo hit Steam today. Hopefully they make their official release date this year. Yes, you can make good and bad choices to either help shape domestic or international policy. Let’s see if re-election is in your future. Or will the election be rigged?

Never thought the day would come when the Irish songs I enjoy could almost be American due to the tyranny coming from the lords above. Well they do say if you don’t learn your history, you’re doomed to repeat it. Since the Republicans want to burn books and rewrite history, we’ll do it all again.

Second play of Shackleton Base. I’d call it a pretty close game. Purple went all in on Skywatch to close out the victory. Second and third were spaced out within two points of each other. I was brown, going all in on plants and robots. Need to work on building more domes.

Last Monday played Shackleton Base for the first time. I feel that the asymmetrical leaders aren’t quite balanced. We watched Japan’s ability get used more than double anyone else’s. They maxed out their reputation quickly, enabling the blue resource gathering. 1-

You can meet the most interesting people on public transportation. Those yelling and screaming at each other for several minutes only for them to shake hands and hug it out. Or the homeless who are in need of personal hygiene. Their smell forces people to evacuate the rail car.

Do you ever time yourself when going to a store? Going to get groceries and think you’ll be done and in line to check out in five minutes. Then check your time and get happy to have 30 seconds before your pre-supposed deadline!

Played my first full game of Arcs. Not my cup of tea. Too many random elements starting from hand management/trick taking and ending with combat dice. If you’re dealt all low or mid cards your only chance at initiative is losing a turn. Combat dice are even more chaotic than Root. 1+

Ran a game of Lords of Waterdeep using the Undermountain expansion for four new players. They loved it! It was a pure teach. Like many new players to this game, Intrigue wasn’t used until late in the game, exception the City Guard player. He used them to his advantage.

Question for Magic the Gathering players. Do you buy boxes of boosters, store them up and when you go play with friends either hold chaos, draft or sealed games using those unopened packs? Or do you just rip them open after you them? Asking for a friend. #magicthegathering

There are bloat and necessary game expansions. What’s a necessary one to you? For me, the asymmetrical Lost Ruins of Arnak Expedition Leaders is necessary. Vanilla is fine, but don’t you want to kick it up with more flavor? #boardgames
