I was used to seeing sponges and anemones like this while diving. This time, a really low tide provided a front-row view, no wetsuit or mask needed!🪸🤿

Fishermen told me the long, spaghetti-like Himanthalia elongata was once abundant in Northern Portugal.
Now, it’s a rare find. Mostly young ones like this, or very short adults.

💙Cystoseira tamariscifolia always catches my eye.
✨ Underwater, it reflects brilliant blue light due to structural coloration, a phenomenon shared with soap bubbles and butterfly wings 🫧🦋 Out of water it reverts to brown.
