We don't have a setting like that, but if you don't want search features such as AI Overviews, select the Web filter at the top of the page (or find it under More)

AI Mode in Google Search uses a custom version of Gemini to issue related searches. This "query fan-out" technique finds real-time info from the web, our Knowledge Graph & more. This provides a greater breadth & depth of info than a traditional Google search. Learn more: blog.google/products/sea...

I realize you meant [claire vuissent site:nwn.blogs.com] from looking at your first post -- that other domain doesn't work. I did that, and it seems to find pages that match? Do you still get an AI Overview showing for this?

We don't have a default setting like that, but if you don't want search features such as AI Overviews, select the Web filter at the top of the page (or find it under More)

Your outie found a surprise by typing [Severance] into the Search bar and clicking on the party horn.

There's no proactive option to turn off search features like AI Overviews. You can use Web after doing a search to disable all features, including them. If you don't see the Web option, you'll find it under More.

Gemini is a separate service from Google Search. My assumption is that perhaps you dislike AI Overviews in Search (which use a version of Gemini). If you prefer not to see AIO, you can use the Web link that disables all search features, including AIO. If it's not visible, you'll find it under More

We do still show attributes such as LGBTQ+, Veteran, Disabled & other ownership, if businesses choose them (not all do). In Search, these show on mobile when the About option appears. Some examples from today for real businesses below. More on all the options: support.google.com/business/ans...

Also, here's an example of where the Web filter appears. It can move around (like any filter) based on the exact query that's used. If it's not immediately visible, then use More to access it. Tapping Web disables all search features -- you just get "blue link" web results.

Again, the text was from the Techdirt home page, not another page, not another site. Screenshot below shows it on the home page.

We know many, including researchers, value seeing previous versions of webpages when available. That’s why beginning today, we're adding links to the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine to our "About this result" panel, to give quick context & make this helpful info easily accessible via Search.

We’ve launched a new “Web” filter that shows only text-based links, just like you might filter to show other types of results, such as images or videos. The filter appears on the top of the results page alongside other filters or as part of the “More” option, rolling out today and tomorrow globally…

If you carry on down the page, you'll get recipes and web listings like in this screenshot. With the web listings, you can see how the word appears in these -- we are matching to the quoted part. Not as clear with the recipes, because they don't have snippets (descriptions) as with web listings...

I searched for [is copper diamagnetic or paramagnetic] and the results seem pretty clear that it's diamagnetic?

Quotes really should work. If you or anyone finds they don't, happy to follow-up on the examples. We did a post that explains more about this: blog.google/products/sea...

For ["costal"] that worked fine for me with a definition at the top -- not sure why you got different.

I did ["cat tooth abscess"] and what I'm getting is about cats. Would you mind sharing what you're seeing?

It’s a belief dating back to even before Google was popular, as I wrote about when I was a journalist in 2000, in the article below. As was the case then, so it remains true now. There’s no perfect formula to follow….

To close, Google Search wants the open web and content creators to succeed. It’s the foundation for the result we show. We appreciate all of those who are making great content, and we’ll be looking at ways to better communicate with creators and reward that great content.

Bad examples don’t mean that an update didn’t generally improve results overall. They may also involve other systems we need to improve. We look at bad examples, try to understand underlying issues and move forward with figure improvements. More here: blog.google/products/sea...

It’s not uncommon after we release an update that some may point to flaws or problems with search. “But what about!” As said, Google Search isn’t perfect and never will be. There will always be some bad examples to point at. The feedback *is* appreciated, and it doesn’t mean we’re ignoring them…
