We remember her today for her sense of humour, generosity to those less fortunate & how she defied convention to live with the woman she loved.

On this day 184 years ago, despite grieving for her wife, Ann Walker wrote home from Moscow to ensure acts of charity were carried out at Christmas. Ann's letter to Booth is transcribed below. 1/

How amazing that you have all helped us get to £2000, with 12 days to go, to help feed the people of the Lightcliffe area this Christmastime just as Ann left in her will.

ANN WALKER’S LEGACY CHRISTMAS FUNDRAISER
Ann Walker, in her will, left a legacy to the people of Lightcliffe at Christmas. Every year we fundraise for a local foodbank in honour of Ann’s legacy. This year it’s the Brighouse Central Foodbank - about 2.5 miles from Cliffe Hill. £1778 raised so far!

In her will, Ann left £10 to be distributed “among the Poor of the Township of Lightcliffe… on Christmas day in every year.”
Ann instructed William Gray, her executor, to invest in 3% annuities with enough money from her personal estate to earn £10 dividends p.a.
