Get some background then? I wish I could provide a more specific action, but it really depends on the flavor of med writing/tech writing in question. But yeah, I agree the majority of the work is gig/contract for the entry-level.

Vast majority of positions are remote (90%). QC=Quality Control. I don't have any specific openings or companies for you, but "medical writing" always has lots of hits.

Perhaps this is a stupid suggestion, but what about medical writing? Meaning preparation of science journal articles and conference materials (scientific communication), regulatory and clinical documents like clinical study protocols and reports. There's also the QC aspect, which is a good intro.
