I don’t understand how any of the Green councillors can have backed this 🤷 @theformerdanboyle.bsky.social @oliver.ie @cllrhonorekamegni.bsky.social

I am sorry to say that from my vantage point this is not good enough for the people of Cork and shouldn’t be accepted lying down. What was a park has become a gravel path. Graffiti will take over as the months roll on. We have taken a step backward in terms of environment here.

Significant variations have been made from the architects winning design, in an effort to cut costs. Walk through the park with the below approved plan in hand and compare it to what has been delivered here. A lot of the key features have been either cut out entirely or heavily altered.

Already there are concerningly large pools of water on the gravel. Replacing large banks of grass with gravel means there is nowhere for the water to properly drain and the new systems will get overwhelmed quickly.

All the park needed was for the gates to be removed, some wild flower planting, removal of the glass box by the gates, repair of the fountain, and a security presence. There’s already beer bottles there in the morning and no additional security measures have been taken to ensure safety.

To go from what we had to this is an act of total environmental destruction. It’s not a park anymore. It’s a gravel path.

Is there a problem here as well @oliver.ie with the Glanmire to city cycle route? It seems to me that both this and the recently approved works for the North Docks contradict that scheme. They couldn’t go building that out only to rip it up for the Port or for the North Docks public realm.

Expecting? That first image is a vague outline. It is not clear at all how anybody could leave or enter the site from that image (there aren’t even road markings). How could anyone in the council have thought that was a genuine proposal? What they have brought forward is tremendous.

Great news! Predatory industry that profits on human suffering.
